Margaret never called herself a farmer, even though she worked cattle her entire life.
“I just did what needed doing,” she says.
She raised children, kept books, fixed fences, drove utes, and helped neighbours when things got tough. Her mentors were her parents, her husband, and the women who worked quietly alongside her.
“Women were always there. We just didn’t make a fuss.”
Margaret believes the land builds quiet confidence. “It teaches you patience. It teaches you to notice things. And it teaches you that you’re capable of more than you think.”
One of her favourite memories is teaching her granddaughter how to move cattle calmly. “I told her, ‘Don’t push, guide.’ That works for animals and people.”
Margaret loves seeing children on farms now. “They ask the best questions. Honest ones.”
Her wisdom is simple: “Respect the land, respect each other, and take the time to teach the young ones.”
At Six Keys Cattle Co, Margaret sees a place where knowledge is shared, confidence is built, and learning feels real, just as it always should have been.
